Funny Ringtones
Over the past several years, the ratio of cell phone usage has been rapidly taking over the prevalence of land-line telephones, with around 2 billion or more people using cell phones across the globe. Given the largeness of that quantity, it makes the desire to customize one’s mobile phone to be wholly identifiable by ring and therefore unique to everyone else’s an important thing, if not an absolute necessity.
Before, when cell phones were still young and the concept of custom- downloaded ring tones were still a thing of the past, if a cell phone went off in a restaurant or other crowded area, everyone with a mobile phone on their person would begin patting themselves down to find the phone and then pull it out and make sure they weren’t getting a call. Why…because at the time, there really were only a handful of rings that cell phones made, no matter what the cell phone provider, and no matter what the make and model.
Cell phones chirped, beeped, and in some instances rang. Others played “The Entertainer” or “Ode to Joy,” and some were even advanced enough to play “Fur Elise.” But really, that was the extent of what could be set as an alert at the time, causing frustration and unnecessary movement for a large group of people with the same ring tone. So now many of those 2 billion cell phone subscribers do their best to find the ring tone that not only sets them apart, but also shows their tastes and personality.
Sure, it’s easy enough to pull up a search engine, do a query or two, and then download a ringtone of the newest radio hit — but it doesn’t necessarily create the desired effect of having a cell phone ring that is unique to others in a nearby area. With music, it is fairly common for a multitude of people to have the same default ring tone because the selection across many websites is not always as large as one might think, and the most popular ring tones are the most popular because everyone else has downloaded them already.
Choosing humorous ringtones could be the way to go. Men like to laugh, and studies show that women like to laugh a lot as well, or else a sense of humor would no longer be the number one most looked for trait in potential partners. Fewer people tend to download funny ring tones, meaning they will be more unique than a Top 40 Hit, and the variety of places the clips come from is much wider.
Snippets of comedians’ stand-up routines are a good start, especially for those who specialize in one-liners or have a habit of saying short sentences that are enough to make someone crack a smile. Given the number of comedians out there today — and the number of comedians who have been doing their routines for decades now — the content is such that it should be easy for someone to find a line or two that is perfect for a cell phone.
Movie quotes are perfect as well, especially considering how often people seem to bring them up in everyday conversation, whether to make a joke, make a point, or just have something to do. Sometimes, similarly to music lyrics, movies can express thoughts and feelings the everyday man or woman has trouble putting voice to — or can’t bring them, given the situation. For example, in many cases, quoting the movie Office Space and setting it as the ring tone for when a boss or supervisor calls can perhaps bring a bit of levity to the atmosphere before having to answer the phone.
Regardless of the ability to make a cell phone ring tone stand out in a crowd; consider the health side of this issue: laughter is the best medicine. For those people who get an unbelievable number of cell phone calls, being given a reason to laugh on a frequent basis can be a well-needed boost, help relieve stress, even just for a little while, among other things. Taking the time to find the right cell phone ring tone won’t just make a person stand out — it could be good for you.
