Nextel Ringtones

In 2005, Nextel Communications was bought by Sprint, and the two created the Sprint Nextel Corporation, which is the third largest telecommunication companies in the world, with about 51.7 million monthly subscribers to their services. Before the switch, Nextel was known for the feature many of its phones had that turned a mobile phone into a two-way radio with a very long distance between handsets.

Like most cell phones, not all of Nextel’s mobile phone offerings can use just any ring tone available. When using Nextel’s website to download ring tones, it is important to make sure the ring tone is compatible with the cell phone in question.

Nextel has a large number of different ring tones available on their website. They are grouped under four categories: Music, Polyphonic, Voice, and Sound. Music tones are clips of actual songs that are cut down in such a way as to make a good loop. Polyphonic ring tones are similar to music tones because they are parts of songs; the difference is that they are versions of the real songs that have been remade and sequenced on a computer and do not include lyrics. Voice ring tones are simply that: voices, without music. Sound ring tones are simple sound effects to catch the attention of the cell phone owner when a call comes in.

The music tone group is a fairly long list of different song clips.  They fall under a large number of subcategories and groupings, such as dance, rock, pop, motown, and even seasonal, college fight songs, and tunes from movies, television shows, and musicals.

For Rock fans, there are ring tones from older favorites like the Rolling Stones, Iron Maiden, Chicago, the Monkees, Bon Jovi, and the Doors. There are also newer bands like Modest Mouse, Incubus, Nickelback, Guster, and Breaking Benjamin. Solo artists like John Mayer, Eric Clapton, and Tori Amos can also be found on the Nextel website.

Rap and Hip hop fans can add plenty of ring tones to their phones with clips from songs by Nelly, Snoop Dogg, Cypress Hill, Warren G, and more. There is also a section called Bling Tones, which has  rhymes and rhythms to represent your neighborhood, some hip hop  reggae beats, and some Barrio music as well.

For college sports fans, or college students and graduates who like  to express their school affiliations with pride, there are plenty of  college fight song tones to download. Baylor University, Dartmouth  College, Penn State, and Notre Dame are all in attendance, as well as  state Universities from Michigan, Nebraska, Tennessee, Texas, Ohio,  Florida, Colorado, and others. For those who attended military  universities, there are United States Air Force and United States  Navel Academy marching band songs as well.

Polyphonic ring tones are being used less and less in favor of rings  tones made of real song clips, but not everyone under Nextel’s cell  phone plans have switched to newer phone models, so this more archaic  form of ring tone is still offered. Due to its simplicity, though,  and the smaller file size, some with newer, more advanced phones will  choose polyphonic even though they can play the real song clips.

Polyphonic tones are similar to music tones in their categories of  selection, having rock, latin, pop, dance, and hip-hop songs, not to  mention sports themes, holiday ring tones, and themes from television  shows and movie soundtracks. They only difference is that they are  all arranged on a computer using notation and computer-generated  instruments, and therefore do not have the lyric track that a real  song might.

The Voice category has a multitude of movie and television show  clips, as well as  recordings of famous celebrities telling the cell  phone owner that they are receiving a call. Celebrities include Mr. T,  Snoop Dogg, Cam’ron, and the members of Panic at the Disco.
Sound ring tones are varied, including categories such as bodily  functions, the revving engines of various automobiles, dogs barking,  police sirens, people laughing, and even the sound of a vintage  telephone.

All ring tones on the Nextel Website cost a flat fee of $2.50.  Depending on the features on a subscriber’s monthly plan, there may  or may not be additional data transfer charges. The ring tones do not  expire. There is also a convenient compatibility list on each page so  subscribers can make sure the ring tone will work on their mobile phone.

So whatever a Nextel mobile subscriber may be looking for, whether  it is a new, catchy song, or something humorous to brighten the next  phone call that comes in, the Nextel website has it. All it takes is  finding the tone, entering the Nextel phone number of the cell phone  in question, and clicking ‘buy’ on the cell phone screen. After that,  the ring tone will be on the phone and only needs setting.
